| Spent the first half of the Easter break up at my FIL's place outside of Lismore, nothing like a full night's sky of stars and fresh country air to give you a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. Out of the "forest" and into the light There may or may not be an egg under there "Little Dude", the horse next door Why do my best landscape shots always have the arse-end of an animal in them? This is Pelican Air Flight 019 coming in for landing Folding wings make storage on aircraft carriers significantly more space-efficient My first decent BIF (Bird In Flight) shot on the new camera. Powerpole not as much of an intrusion as I first thought Second BIF shot - fortunately close enough that even an 18-55 could get a decent shot with only the bare essential cropping The shot from Evans Head lookout. Sky gave me a good chance to find a few dust spots on the lens and clone them out Spotted a bunch of dolphins from up at the lookout, 55-200 wasn't long or fast enough to get them in time so I had to settle for a Zodiac Rock Valley LPO - smallest Post Office in Australia, about the size of your average roadside rest-stop toilet block. | |

| So I went to a concert on Saturday night up at Fort Scratchley, two guys recreating Mike Oldfield's 30+ instrument album Tubular Bells, fittingly titled Tubular Bells for Two. Decided to live outside my comfort zone a bit and rely on my wide-angle zoom and tele prime (11-16 f/2.8 and 105 f/2 DC respectively) instead of my usual 17-55 f/2.8 and the results, whilst not 100% perfect, were an excellent learning experience for both lenses in quite testing circumstances (really wish I had a 70-200 2.8 VR for the band-shots as the un-stabilised 105 was really starting to struggle) The stage is set The surf has been "interesting" lately... Obligatory "This-Is-Newcastle" shot of Nobby's Beach Crowd gathers as the sun goes down Big gun is big Thought I'd try out some moon shots, 105 is ridiculously short even on a DX but plenty of MP means plenty of cropping possible Same shot as above, just cropped much tighter. Even at a fraction of the portion of the frame the 105 was still holding up well, much better than I expected Even f/2 and ISO3200 was struggling get enough light in for hand-holdable shutter speeds, actual lighting was almost non-existant which wasn't helping matters at all. Which sucks really, because I think I nailed the timing and composition pretty well (ignore the black pole, that was part of the lighting gantry and was unavoidable from my shooting spot). | |

The album that launched Virgin... Basically Richard Branson would not be the multi-millionaire he is today without Tubular Bells... | |
