| Hi all, just peeled myself off my seat in a puddle of sweat. Is it possible to fit airconditioning to my car ? Its current setup allows only for the standard blower. If it is possible, what cars are compatible? Starlet or Carina or... whatever Thanks a lot for the help Dave | |

| I don't think the dash has anything to do with it......
but obviously you'd need all the components, inside and under the hood, then all the tubes will need to be run, all the wiring and fuses retrofitted, freon charged up, etc. Sounds like way too much work.
I'm assuming you already have the windows open lol.

| Its not the dash thats the issue, and here in Malta there isn't a single scrapped corolla. I kid you not, I walked into the biggest scrapyard and walked up to the person at the counter. I asked "Do you have any parts for a Toyota"...."NO". They only had an ep80 starlet. Eh. All the windows are open all the time My question is, can it be done? Can I, for example, find a parts list of the airconditioning components, order them either imitation or find them in a scrapyard (sooo unlikely) and bolt them into the car? Belts and all? See, the weather is currently clear. Literally no breeze. So much humidity its practically raining. Oh and 41 degrees C. The aircondition is very much needed Has anyone any experience with this? Thanks a lot | |

| u would need the ac compressor.the condensor the inner evaporator box.piping that goes from the compressor through the condenser to dash.some wirring and relays.and lots of feron gas.and you would also need a ac switch.and the ac fuse box under the hood over here in pak many people have done these conversions on non air conditioned cars costs about 25 thousand on small cars and 30 to 35 thousand on bigger car
thats it from my side i hope i didnt miss any thing

| Wow! Thanks a lot ....you might have given me a slight shock cause I thought you were giving prices in Euro. I see. Ok then I think i'll look into this more. If I see this is possible i'll make a build thread. This would come about 360 euro, but i'll see if I can get it cheaper. Will keep you guys updated Dave | |

| Funny, I'm working on the same project, in the meantime I managed to find a complete set for the AE111, waiting for pics now. Just need to find what parts are interchangeable and what parts I still need to source.
As said above you will at least need:
1. A/C switch for the dash (can be easily found on ebay) 2. Evaporator housing (can be found on ebay) 3. Condenser (can be found on ebay) 4. Dryer 5. Expansion valve (can be found on ebay) 6. Compressor (can be easily found on ebay) 7. All the tubing (can be found on ebay) 8. All the wiring 9. Freon gas

| You can definitely remove the a/c, most if not all of it without problems. At least the pipes, compressor, radiator, servo etc will save the most weight. | |

| what chris said, most people do this to remove excess weight, plus in the UK you dont need AC lol | |

| On mine, the switch was just an insert, so it was no biggie to have AC or not, just either the switch or a blank plate. | |

| White, I know your pain bro haha. My car was without too, and I drive a lot, especially long distance trips, in the summer it's painfullll. If you plan on keeping the car for a while then it's definitely something to look into, I know it was about $700 to get a/c installed brand new here, would have been maybe $400 with yard parts plus installation, but I never got around to it. So 360 euro seems really fair to get something done that can be a really good benefit. | |

| but bro beware for yard parts check for gas leakage before buying.specially the condesor and the compressor.because freon is a very expensive gas and u wouldnt want it going in the air like whoooosh .happened to me twice in a month.so after installing the ac just pit pressureized gas in the system and check the reading with the air pressure meter.and go back to the ac person after 2 days to check the reading if its the same to previous then ur good to go for the gas refill. i hope it helps | |

| I think that the AC is "universal" enough that there should be a custom setup available from a shop or something, some place that has all universal parts, and custom fits the lines and wires it up. It wouldn't be OEM AC, but it would work, if you can find that shop. | |

| Well why couldn't those be universal items also custom installed?
I'm thinking of this like a turbo "kit"... it's got the intercooler, piping, turbo, electronics, etc, you (the shop) just has to fabricate the intercooler pipes, exhaust headers, wiring etc.

| Wow guys I can't thank you enough for all the help and advice. Anyways, I put an ad in a local site for air condition parts and some guy called and said he can get me all the parts original from japan if I give him the chasis number. I'll look into this more when I can, but sounds pretty good. I just hope the price will be reasonable. With regards to getting scrapyard parts, it is actually impossible as I confirmed again today. I called the biggest scrapyards in Malta (this isn't saying much) and they have absolutely nothing for my car. So thats out. I'll just hope for the best and keep you guys updated as much as possible Thanks again everyone! | |

| Oh definitely. That is probably whats going to happen, but I'll look a bit more locally maybe I'll get lucky (so unlikely). Either way, I'm not in a huge rush as the heat of summer is almost over. But I have to get it done by next summer at least.
So I'll start looking from now. If I find some of the larger parts here I'll be happy...still need to check if a toyota carina or starlet may be a good donor vehicle for airconditioning components.

| you should be able to get it of most starlets gt, maybe contact Zisco (tuning firm in malta) they should have the parts for the ac as its added weight so they take it off | |
