2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Empty
PostSubject: 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart   2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart EmptySun Aug 19, 2012 9:47 am

Well hay there. You all know me Razz You all know what happened to my ride, yada yada. After what happened to my car, I was really upset, until my insurance paid off pretty nicely, up to (I can't remember the exact number) around $12,000. I went to the "auto mall" in the big[ger] city two hours from here, where there's 13? dealerships in a 2km radius. I gotta say, it was crazyyyyyy.

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Dsc0295ww
Wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man type of crazy.

I was there with a friend and some family all day. Arrived at 9am, and spent the first 3 hours looking at and test driving new and used Toyotas, some Lexus and the few Scions they had. Even sat in a Lexus ISF and test drove an IS350 (for fun, obvs Razz). Couldn't find another 7th gen Corolla D: and tbh, I was also looking for something different. I was also test driving a few other cars, some new Subies, some Honduhs, a couple Nissans, some Mitsubishis (I have a thing for Asian cars). About 4 and a half hours into looking, I was walking around, and then I saw it.

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Dsc0296nw

Ever since I was 10 and had saw The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift I had always wanted a 2000-2007 Lancer (never understood their generations haha). An EVO more specifically, but I'm not picky Wink

It was at a Suzuki dealership, some guy traded it in for a Kizashi Turbo :O haha. I asked them to test drive it, and I just loved it. Was lookin under the hood, nice 2.4L MIVEC 4pot, putting out 162hp and 162 lb-ft. Suspension was still decent, stock struts and Ralliart performance springs. Has a pretty decent stock sound system too, 5 speaker I believe, had a factory Infinity sub in the back too, with a decent headunit and 6 cd changer. They were asking $15,000 for it. Pfft. Got my Mom in there to help negotiate and I got er for a nice $10,900.

Oh man did I love the drive back haha. 2 hours of weaving through people on the highway, of course I'm not the greatest stick driver so driving in the city I did have some issues but this car is amazingly fun to drive. When I got back to my town, my friend (who came with me) and I went and showed a few of my other friends, who were all just as ecstatic as I was Razz I went and took a few quick pictures, then was right back to driving as I couldn't stop.

As soon as the paper work was all done (my friend, some family and I were waiting for my parents and the sales guy who took like 3 hours) I sat in the car and had the hugest smile on my face. It sounds kinda lame, but it felt rather surreal you might say.

This car is a pretty big change from the Corolla and for me. I loved my Corolla and will love it for however long it reasonable to love a car, but this car is something I wouldn't change for the world.

I am still sticking around obviously, so you all won't miss me Razz But I'm looking forward to seeing what you all think!

wow that is nice, and your mom has some awesome bargaining skills 5k drop Shocked WOW lol

must be abit tough moving on, but this is probably way quicker than the rolla and probably more comfortable.

and you can strap a turbo to that engine no problem Razz

Haha a bit surprising eh, but she's had a way with bartering like that as long as I can remember.

It is tough definitely, I still miss my Corolla but I think I've got to the point where I realize there's really nothing I could do once it was gone. It had skirt rust, rear fender rust and was burning oil, this car has none of those problems. It is definitely way faster and a bit more comfortable. I miss the Corolla, but this car is pretty awesome.

And oh yeah, hahah, I'm already looking at some things to upgrade (has uuuugly tail lights), looking at coilovers (can sell the suspension for quite a bit as it is almost brand new), looking at doing a turbo conversion and a few other things. Razz

PostSubject: Re: 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart   2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart EmptySun Aug 19, 2012 10:54 am

First let me say that you sound EXACTLY like me after I lost my rusting oilburner and sat in my "new" IS300 with a huge smile on my face, already contemplating how cool my future was gonna be.

$12k?!?!?!?!?! omg wow that's a lot!! You really made out on that, no wonder you were so happy. And with those awesome negotiation skills, you even got to keep a little money when it was all said and done. Talk about awesome bro!

And yes that is a nice car for sure, course it's not an Evo, but whatever. It's a much better and newer car than the rolla was. I almost went Shocked though when you said IS-F!! I want one soooooo bad!!! But I don't want to abandon my little IS300 hehe How was the IS350?

But that's totally awesome how things worked out for you. I personally feel that is God working, if it was my case (as it was when I got my car). But the way you got $12k, went out looking randomly at cars, and drove home the perfect one is just beyond coincidence! You didn't even know what to look for. I feel so happy for you now, this really has turned around 100% for the best, and you're better off and happier than before.

I like your plans already. Definitely do coilovers (drop it more), wheels, window tint, fog lights? That should be a good start. This really is a good car for us enthusiasts and I think it will suit you nicely.

Very Happy

PostSubject: Re: 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart   2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart EmptySun Aug 19, 2012 11:25 am

It's a great feeling haha. And I know right! What happened was the woman who slammed on the brakes infront of me, when she denied it in person, I brought it up in my statement to the police, and I guess she admitted to it in hers, so I had $100 taken off my fine and only lost 4 demerits instead of 6, which is really nice, so my insurance gave me more money and won't be as expensive when I register my new car Razz haha.

It's not an EVO, but I still love it haha. I drove a 2012 Lancer DS? I think it was, a 2012 Impreza STI and the IS350 amongst other cars, but the IS350 and STI were so awesome haha.

And definitely man, things worked out so well. It definitely feels good knowing you guys are happy for me too haha, I'm really happy about how everything has turned out lately, obviously Razz I'm sitting here with a big grin on my face as it is.

My plans, oh my plans for this car hahah. Coils, wheels, tint and rear tails are on the list definitely, it also has fog lights actually! I'll try and get a better picture or two later. And it definitely is a good car, big tuner community too, not sure about locally, but there's like 6 or 7 forums I've found Razz It's rather exciting.

And hey, you can easily get an IS300 for cheaper than his Lancer! Maybe I could give you mine so I'd have an excuse to get the IS-F mmm What a Face

Man I just set up a savings account called "IS300 funding". Goal is $12,100. I currently have $1,000 in that account. hahaha it's gonna be a long while for me. And the Corolla would be an awesome car for my brother or when gas price sky rockets again. tongue

@Kenny, atleast you've already started saving for it Razz and yesss the Corolla would be a good car for your little bro haha, nice car to start out with.

@Ishaq, We all would I imagine, it was so pretty hahah. It was that blue colour, almost like Chris's IS, and it was so nice inside and out.

@Shehroze, Thanks dude, I love it so far, I understand how you did when you were younger haha.

You mean it was this IS-F color???

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Gwp3

OMG yes I totally want that one...... and my problem is that I've already saved up the money for it, so it's just a matter of restraint and self control not to get it lol....

And Kenny, you shouldn't need that much money! I imagine you'd only need half of that by the time you've saved $6000. You can even find them for less than that now. Mine was on the high side because of the location.

Really?!! Very Happy

But I want one in real good condition, a 2005 model, with decent miles on it, owned by an old lady lol, and absolutely has to have the 2JZ in it (do they all come with the 2JZ?). I don't want to have to work on the car like I had to with the Corolla.

Hey... maybe one day I'll buy YOURS! cyclops

Oh, well in that case, yeah you'll need all that money lol for a grannied 2005.

Yes, they all come with the same engine.

LOL, you could buy mine, but it wouldn't be anything you want.... except for the 2JZ I guess. Lots of miles, 2002, I'm no old lady, I crash it into walls! And the fenders are all messed up lol. I've really lost interest in keeping it up... it's great and reliable! Very Happy

Holy man getting this thing on the road has been rather annoying. This will be a decent read so I'll try and elaborate as much as possible.

I live in Northwestern Ontario in Canada in a city of about 17,000 people. All the car dealerships locally charge, to quote my Dad, an "arm and a leg" for vehicles, so a lot of people head across the provincial border into Manitoba to go to the city of Winnipeg (population 700,000 people) as it is far cheaper and there are a lot more vehicles to choose from. Thing is Manitoba is completely prairie, except for up North, meaning it's completely flat there, with exception to some river valleys. Northern and Northwestern Ontario are entirely in the Canadian shield, which is extremely hilly, has some mountain like ranges, lots of lakes, dirt roads, harsh winters etc, so to get the cars safetied is very different in both places as their are different requirements, I don't know why it's not universal requirements across Canada, but I don't make the rules. Anyways.

Red arrow is where I live and it's a twoish hour drive to Winnipeg, the blue arrow.

Well when I bought the car from Winnipeg, the dealership claimed it had undergone a 200? point inspection and safety, but now that I've brought it here, the local guys are saying it has so much work to go into it, for a vehicle that cost $12,000 it is kind of ridiculous.

The safety was supposed to be $130 at the local Toyota dealership, full inspection, oil change, grease job, yada yada. But the head of service and repair called me when the list of what had to be done already exceeded $1000. Apparently the previous owners never had a brake job done, there was no grease, and apparently the Suzuki dealership did a pretty bad safetying in Manitoba because both rear brakes were COMPLETELY seized in. They had to use a torch and a huge mallot to pound them out of the slide. The list following is all stuff that has been done so far, what needs to be done for an Ontario safety and what is recommended.

Fixed:
Seized rear brake calipers
Seized rear brake pads, brand new pads
Oil change
All filters changed

What needs to be done for safety:
That is what my dealership did as part of the safety, but it's still not safetied because the following still needs to be fixed:
There's a nail in the tire, that somebody instead of fixing, just covered with rubber.
Windshield wipers don't touch (requirement for Ontario)
SRS Airbag light is on (Suzuki just wiped it last time and never actually fixed it)
Ebrake caliper? is seized and not gripping properly
5 bulbs on the exterior of the car are not working or the bulbs are broken

Recommended:
Front brake lube job
New rear rotors

When I was checking the car myself, I didn't see the airbag light because the Suzuki dealership had wiped it without fixing it. The nail in the tire instead of pulling and plugging, they just covered it with rubber so I also didn't see that. I noticed the rear rotors were rusting and new that they needed to be done, but I didn't realize how poorly the previous owner had maintained the brakes as far as never getting it lubed and greased in 70,000km, and the dealer failed to notify us of that. As well they obviously didn't check around very well and do a good job safetying it if in half an hour the local Toyota dealership found all these problems.

While I had the car too I noticed the battery was the original, almost 7 year old, Mitsubishi battery and that it was starting very weak on Saturday. So I bought a new one and replaced it.

I now have to take the day off work tomorrow and make a 2 hour trip to Winnipeg to bring it to the Suzuki dealership to get all the remaining things needed for safety to be finished. They payed for all the work Toyota did, and all the work they are doing tomorrow is on them as well as $50 for gas they will give me, but my issue is if they did this poor of a job, and the car was so poorly maintained thus far, is worth keeping? I have the option of returning it. And it's not like if something went on the Mitsubishi that I could take it locally, as there is no Mitsubishi dealership here, I'd have to go to Winnipeg anyways.

So that's my predicament at the moment, I leave in roughly 13 hours, I can get the car all fixed up (hopefully) and drive it with the risk of something else going, or return it, get my money back and try and find something else. The car is one of the funnest I've ever driven and I'd love to keep it, but my parents believe otherwise. I just want to know what you guys think.

to be totally honest bro its up to you.

its a used car, something that you should think of before buying a car, it will have wear and tear and you have no clue how the previous owner has treated it.

however as you said toyota has sorted out the service and suzuki is sorting out the rest even though they didnt do a "200" point inspection on it...

there are afew questions though,

when you take it back will it be all be done correctly? if yes then you dont need to worry as the car will be perfect.

if you want your money back, what will you go for instead?

can you get an independant inspection done on the car before taking it back just incase toyota missed anything?

I tried to explain that to my parents and to the Toyota guys, but I agree with what they said when if Suzuki was supposed to have serviced it, the brake lubing, all the brake pads, fluids, etc should have been done by them before they even put it on the lot. Suzuki said they'll fix everything that is left to do, which I'm hoping is true, and they are right beside a Mitsubishi dealership anyways, so if they need help for the airbag it's always there. That's probably going to be the most expensive part, because nobody is sure if the lights just on the fritz, if the airbag was previously deployed, or if the system is malfunctioning.

And I have no idea, it took me long enough to find the Lancer as it is.

And my dad's friend came over after we got it back from Toyota, he is a licensed mechanic of over 20 years, he checked all he could and said it all looked good aside from the things Toyota pointed out.

I want to keep it, but it's a fight with my parents to get something with a better service record.
