How much modification would be required to turbo a stock silvertop?

Is it just a case of new manifold etc, or is it a complete rebuild to avoid cooking the thing on the first run?

You can run a turbo with a standard silver top and run low boost and be ok but my advice is to do the whole thing.
Easiest way is to use a ZE short block with the 20v head, with of course the mani and ECU to suit

So a big job then... May wait until I move into a place with a decent workshop before I attempt such things

you can run roughly 6psi on stock internals because its a higher compression engine

You can use Silvertop block with low comp pistons or GZE block , depends what you can source, build it all first then transplant into car. If you can find a GZE Levin then get gearbox as well complete with larger diameter driveshafts [strongest stock set up].

use the silvertop block with GZE pistons there 3 diff size or 2 diff size i think bore size 81mm or 81.5mm,silver top rods,if use 81.5mm will have to bore out ur silver top block..
if you use GZE block with silvertop head the water jackts dont match up..will have to give to a workshop to match up jacktes..

i used black top engine, with GZE pistons bore out my block to fit 81.5mm pistons..

if need any more info PM man will help you out...

Don't be fooled into thinking that GZE blocks, cranks or rods are any stronger or more special though - they are essentially the same (exactly the same in the case of cranks and rods, the blocks have a few slight but basically irrelevant differences) as the equivalent year N/A GE (although the last GZE retained the 16V head), so an AE101 GZE shares the same bottom end as a silvertop, just with different pistons.

As long as you get the right CR pistons and ECU to match your boost, a standard silvertop is perfectly fine to put low-medium boost through without changing crank, block etc.
