| Why is that? Put it on a tripod and set the shutter speed to 15 seconds. | |

| yeah just put the camera on a tripod. i set my f stop to 5 and my shutter speed to 30 seconds cause thats as long as i can go before it goes to bulb (i really need to get a remote so i can use that mode) and i set my iso to 100. first i turned the lights on so i could focus then it was lights out and i acted like a complete idiot lol. i had a lot of fun. i didnt get any "awesome" shots though. ill see if there are any neat ones that i missed | |

Well, learning what "f-stop" "iso" "aperture" etc might be a good start for me

| Though, now that I see your two pics of the purple light... I suppose that I have done "light painting"! I took these in South Carolina on my trip. But, I moved the camera instead! lol. This one is my car door LEDs and a random street light. These two are just the random street light. Oh well, | |

Well, learning what "f-stop" "iso" "aperture" etc might be a good start for me ISO - remnant from film days, in which it referred to how quickly the film reacted to light (the film "speed") - these days it is how sensitive the sensor is - higher numbers = more sensitive but also means more noise Aperture - the size of the diaphragm in the lens - the larger the size, the more light the lens lets in F-stop - a measure of the aperture as a ratio of the focal length. An f-stop of f/2.8 means the aperture is set an effective (ie after magnification etc) of the focal length of the lens divided by 2.8. Smaller numbers on the denominator mean a larger ratio and thus a larger aperture opening (a "fast" lens) Basically, you use a combination of the main camera settings (ISO, Aperture and shutter speed) to determine the outcome of the photo. For instance, in low-light situations you need either a slower shutter speed (to keep the shutter open longer, but means more chance for blurring from movement), high ISO (to get the sensor to react to very small amounts of light, but this can introduce noise) or large aperture (which lets more light hit the sensor whilst the shutter is open, but can tend to softer photos and more out-of-focus areas). All 3 are compromises and you have to weigh up which you prefer - decent DSLRs have standard presets called PASM which will allow you to change one of those settings (ie Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority) and it will automatically work out the others, let you set all of them yourself (Manual) or give you a bunch of presets to choose from (Program) or just do it all by itself (Auto).

| Gosh it's so much lol. I do seem to get a lot of noise in my pics, so lowering the ISO would fix that.
Basically, using a tripod with low IS, small aperture, and longer exposure/shutter speed should look the best?
