PostSubject: 7AGE Common Issues and Problems   Sun May 12, 2013 8:09 pm

I am looking at putting a 7AGE (20v ST head) into my Corolla, are there any things that I should look out for?
Some questions that I do have:
- What is the best ECU to run? I was considering a Link.
- Any problems with torque and the C52 boxes?
- Intakes etc, ITBs w/ trumpets or just stock intake with poddy/airbox?

Is there anything that I should look out for to determine if the engine has been built poorly? (I am looking at getting of a mates, mate who built it to replace the 20V Blacktop in his Trueno BZ-R but now his RX-7 is working he is selling it)

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Not massively clued up on these hybrids but iv read a few things about them.

Ecu can be run piggy back if needed but a standalone would obviously be better. (What do local mappers prefer to use?)

Intakes. If you use a silvertop setup they run Afm so you would need the intake plenum and then a pipe to the afm and a filter on the front of it.
But with an ecu these could be setup to run a MAP sensor (blacktop) then the throttles can be run open if wanted (best results still seem to be with a plenum 50mm trumpets and CAI though)

Get a 5speed (c52 is 5speed i know lol) box they are generally stronger although 2nd n 3rd gear syncros do tend to be weak anyway but theres been plenty of boosted 4a's using them boxes so nothing to worry about. Just get an uprated clutch kit Smile

Build wise, i can only say what iv read.

Should be built with a Porsche 944 cambelt iirc?
And to set the timing up spot on a set of vernier pulley's is needed.
Then the other thing is the way the crank is machined (oilways offset on journals) they aren't designed to take high rpms. This would be down to what you tell the tuner though.

Also im Not sure on torque settings or changes made to oil pumps etc

Thanks for the info, since looking at the 7age that my mate's mate had, despite it having all of the goodies, I am thinking of just putting a blacktop in as its significantly easier and actually makes more power, although that may make getting a cert more difficult due to it being a more than 50% power increase haha.

Just incase anyone is interested, below are the specs of the engine I was looking at:
7A-FE block
Silvertop Pistons
11-12:1 comp ratio
Lowered deck height for more compression
ARP head bolts
ARP rod bolts
Silvertop head
Modified for 7A-FE water pump
4A-GZE Head gasket

There is quite a bit more as well, its a well prepped engine, but given my position (without a usable garage) a blacktop is a better and most likely cheaper option as it won't need an aftermarket ECU or loom and should pretty much just bolt in and run.
