Corolla died tonight Empty
PostSubject: Corolla died tonight   Corolla died tonight EmptyTue Jan 29, 2013 2:01 pm

After driving home from my ex-girlfriend tonight, after doing a spirited drive on the freeway, my Corolla died on me, I'm very sure that the fuel pump has reached the end of its life even though the engine only has done 161760km, but the thing is.. when the engine died I "froze" for a few seconds (I didnt know what to do) so I just hope I've not damaged anything inside the engine.

I'm not sure what I should do, should I send the Toyota dealer an email and ask how much an original fuelpump would cost or should I just go for an aftermarket one instead?

The plan down the line was to do an engine swap but now I have the excuse I need to start upgrading/changing things.

I need some help on what to do!

Oh and my car has the 4E-FE engine.

That sucks about the rolla, but I'm just glad you're okay man. Sad

I'm not very familiar with fuel pumps. I'd just go for an OEM replacement but since you're wanting to swap motors, I'm not sure. Hopefully someone here can help. Unfortunately, dealerships normally arent cheap when it comes to parts like that.

If you are thinking of upgrading in the future then why not upgrade fuel pump now?
Id recommend a walbro pump 255 flow rate

Btw what makes you thinks its the fuel pump?

The fuelpump is the first thing that I thought could be wrong, but it could be something else to.
I cant find the walbro 255 pump but I have found an aeromotive stealth fuel pump that flows 340l/hour, I've also started thinking about upgrading the injectors.

EDIT: Never mine, I found a walbro 255lph fuelpump

What do you mean?
The engine is the same age as the car, they are from 1996

That would mean its facelift gen 2,
Inlet mani is smaller and exhaust mani is 4-1.

You can use a 4efte inlet mani and throttle body, its much better i know because iv done it
Change exhaust mani to the 93-95 mani 4-2-1 and get the injectors off that too

Thanks miib, what kind of gain can I expect if I do those things?

I think my car is quick with the stock 75hp but I'd love to get the same power as my old VW Corrado G60 had (it had 220hp).

What car should I get the parts from?

My car is now a long term project.

If you want big power go with 3sgte
Can get close to either 300bhp with minor mods

Those 3 mods should give you about 90bhp ish from your setup ( i know this because i supplied same parts to a mate and he made 92bhp on dyno iirc)

You can always go with a 20v 4age, I've done that and best of all I told my insurance company the engine is the same one as the fxgt so its factory combination = no change insurance cheers

magweal: What car should I get the parts I need from?
How long should I expect the rebuild to take?

What about a 7AFE engine?
Is that good for tuning?

4AFE and 7AFE are the two you find in North American Corolla's, you can tune em, not really worth it imo unless you have lots of money, but if you can get your hands on a 20V or do a 4EFTE conversion it'd be more worth it.

MirrorEyes: Thanks

The reason I asked is because I found a 7AFE engine for sale from a bigger Toyota, but now I'm considering keeping the stock 4EFE and saving up for a Toyota SW20 to use on nice summer days

Hmm... I have to get my car to the shop before I can do anything else, its just sitting in the garage where I live but I want another Toyota also.

And I've never done an engineswap before.

The swapping of the engine can be done in a day or two, its the wiring that takes a little while, thats best left to the pro's

Who was that question for?
I guess the reason Im not really to into engine swaps is because I've lost my drivers licence 3 times in 10 years..

Speeding, the cops told me that if I loose it 1 more time I'd be without my licence for the rest of my life.

I have a heavy right foot, the first time I lost it I got recorded doing 121 km/h where the speedlimit was 80 km/h (lost it for 11 months), the second time, 86 km/h where the speedlimit was 60 km/h (lost it for 6 months)and the last time, 131 km/h where the speedlimit was 90 km/ (was supposed to loose it for 12 months but got it back after 4).
